Looking back on my recent blog entries and I realised have not done a make up trial for a while…OK maybe a long long while. So I decided to pull out some new items I have been dying to try out and created this modern edgy look with a twist of glamour. BIG HAIR had to be a part of this look…though I couldn’t get the curls right with my Remington Straightener. My dream of one day owning a GHD will come true ;)
Sad to say, but I have yet to see the Mad Men series. I actually have the episodes ready to go but I have been so busy the past few months I haven’t had time to blink. I really love the classic, glamourous looks of the actresses.
Christina Hendricks is an absolute beauty, I envy red heads for their flawless ivory skin
Love to play with blue eye shadow, but never had the balls
Christian Dior pulled off some dramatic blue cat liner eyes in their 2010 couture show
So here is my Mad Men inspired makeup with a touch of modern edginess. I know one of the big no-nos in makeup is to never pair blue eye shadow and red lips together…apparently this is seen as offensive to the viewer. But please let me know what you think :)
I used the Maybelline Master Precise eyeliner in black and it is honestly the best waterproof eyeliner ever! The tip is so pointy and precise that you can draw intricate patterns. I chose to draw a sharp cat eye point which elongates the eye and makes it appear larger.
I used Glamour 101 on my lips, my favourite red wine lipstick by Lime Crime Make Up. I was surprised how hydrated my lips felt, it is a matte red but I didn’t need to apply any gloss over the top. The staying power of this red is incredible!
I use ‘Blushed’, a mauve colour, from Bobbi Brown on my cheeks to bring out a little colour.
Pearls and silk tops are a must for glamour-pusses like me. I would like to find a vintage white or cream coloured one though. My belly could barely fit in this top, therefore the camera has stayed shoulder height and above. Just imagine a beer belly sticking out over some trousers, that’s how it looked like ;)
I used Shoe Addict, a bright blue, from Lime Crime Make up on the eyes. I used it on top of their famous Candy Eye Helper. It just made the colour pop! I smudged a little white eyeliner onto my inner eye creases to make my eyes appear even larger. False lashes are a BIG help too!
The Complete look with big hair…and loose curls.
Here are the products I used. I love the the sample of Photogenic Lumessence, from Lancome in 03 Beige Diaphane, and may consider buying a larger bottle. I used my trusty concealer to line my lips, from Bobbi Brown, this made the red lips stand out even more and to achieve a ‘polished’ look. The concealer also helped cover up the melasma pigmentation caused by crazy pregnancy hormones.
My lovely Lime Crime pretties, I love colour and that is what this brand is all about. They make teaming a blue eye and red lip easy-peasy.
The Master Precise from Maybelline still in its packaging. I won this from Beauty Heaven for being a part of their Blog Star competition last year.
What makeup combination have you wanted to try but never dared to?
